Remembering Barry Sarver

Last week, after a short illness, we lost a long-active Denver Democrat and good friend to so many of us, Barry Sarver. Barry was such a force in the party who served as House District 2 chair, as finance chair and worked on more candidate and ballot issue campaigns that we can name and was an active member of the Tuesday Democrats coffee group. Barry also regularly served as an election judge and was active in his neighborhood association.

Barry spent his childhood in Detroit and Miami and was an outstanding athlete. He played football in high school and for the University of Miami and for Wayne State University, where he graduated.

Barry regularly visited Colorado for ski trips and decided to move here in 1970 where he could live and work doing what he loved.

In addition to skiing, Barry loved to travel with his wife Brenda, taking trips to Europe, Argentina, Brazil and Thailand as well as Mexico and Canada. He also had a passion for food, taking cooking classes and sampling wines on his many voyages. Barry and Brenda went to many concerts, mostly of classical and jazz music.

Barry is survived by his wife, Brenda, his son Asa and wife Julia, his grandsons Caleb and Evan and his dog Copperfield.

A celebration of Barry’s life will be held in Denver on September 9, 2023. If you plan to attend, please contact Brenda at brendariske@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Barry’s name to the Denver Botanic Gardens, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, or a charity of your choice. No flowers, please.
