DENVER, Colo. (Sept. 23, 2024)—The Denver Democrats are pleased to announce the Central Committee's official positions on the Denver County ballot measures for the upcoming Nov. 5, 2024 election. After a thorough review and thoughtful discussion, the Central Committee voted on the following issues, ensuring that their Positions align with the Democratic Party's core values and the needs of Denver residents.
Ballot Measure Positions
Ballot Issue 2Q – Denver Health Funding
Position: Support
This measure will increase sales and use taxes to maintain and expand critical services provided by the Denver Health and Hospital Authority, including trauma care, mental health care and pediatric care.
Ballot Issue 2R – Affordable Housing
Position: Support
This initiative aims to increase sales and use taxes to preserve and expand affordable housing for low- and middle-income families across Denver.
Referred Question 2S – Human Rights Division
Position: Support
A vote in favor will establish the Agency of Human Rights and Community Partnerships as a formal cabinet department, reinforcing Denver’s commitment to human rights.
Referred Question 2T – Removal of Citizenship Requirement for Firefighters and Police Officers
Position: Support
This amendment removes the U.S. citizenship requirement, allowing more Denver residents to serve as firefighters and police officers, broadening the talent pool for these vital public safety roles.
Referred Question 2U – Collective Bargaining for City Employees
Position: Support
This measure will grant collective bargaining rights to certain non-supervisory city employees, strengthening their ability to negotiate for fair wages and improved working conditions.
Referred Question 2V – Firefighters Collective Bargaining
Position: Support
This change would allow for binding arbitration in collective bargaining disputes involving Denver firefighters, enhancing their negotiation rights.
Citizen-Initiated Ordinance 308 – Fur Ban
Position: Oppose
This initiative proposes a ban on the manufacture, sale and trade of fur products within Denver, with limited exceptions.
Citizen-Initiated Ordinance 309 – Slaughterhouse Ban
Position: Oppose
A vote on this measure will determine whether to prohibit the construction and operation of slaughterhouses in the City and County of Denver.
Ballot Issue 4A – Denver Public Schools Bond Issue
Position: Support
This bond will provide much-needed funding to Denver Public Schools to enhance facilities and support student success.
Ballot Issue 7A – RTD Ballot Issue
Position: Support
This measure allows the Regional Transportation District (RTD) to retain and use all revenue to maintain and expand essential public transit services, without raising new taxes.
