Dear Denver Democrats,
As we close out a pivotal year, I want to take a moment to reflect on what we’ve accomplished and the deep emotions many of us are experiencing after this election. Like so many of you, I feel a deep sadness and uncertainty about what lies ahead.
For me, this election has been intensely personal. Being married to an immigrant, we worry about what this moment could mean for our future. I carry concerns—not just for us but for our democracy, for the communities we love and for the freedoms we’ve worked so hard to protect.
I know these feelings resonate across our community. It’s a heavy time for all of us, and it’s okay to feel the weight of this moment. But in that weight, I find a renewed sense of purpose. These fears remind us why we do this work—why we organize, advocate and fight tirelessly for our values.
And here in Colorado, we’ve proven that progress is possible. We protected public school funding, reproductive freedom and marriage equality. We held back the tide of extremism, showing the nation that a brighter future can still be built.
We’ve learned hard lessons from this election, and as we move into 2025, we’ll focus on listening, connecting and growing. We’ll build bridges to working families, rural communities and everyone who feels disconnected from the Democratic Party. Together, we’ll fight for the rights, freedoms and values that define us.
In February, the Democratic National Committee will elect a new chair. As a member of the DNC, I will be in Washington to cast my vote. I am looking for a national party leader who will acknowledge the inequality and economic hardships faced by Americans all over the country and who will clearly articulate a message and a plan that resonates with working Americans. I welcome your thoughts on this important race.
Thank you for everything you’ve done this year. Your passion, resilience and dedication inspire me daily. Together, we’ve built a movement capable of meeting this moment—and together, we’ll continue the fight for the stronger, more equitable future we know is within reach.
In Democratic Unity,
James Reyes
Chair, Democratic Party of Denver
