Hello Denver Democrats!
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Abhinav "Abe" Kaul, and I am the new Secretary of the Democratic Party of Denver. I have been a Democrat for 31 of the 38 years I’ve been on this big blue marble we call home. For me, the Democratic Party was the party for all, not just looking out for the interests of the rich but of the middle and working class. You saw that in bills signed by Democratic Presidents, whether it was the Family and Medical Leave Act under President Clinton, the Affordable Care Act under President Obama or the Inflation Reduction Act under President Biden.
Now I know some people are tired of hearing this, but 2024 could be one of the most important elections of our lifetime. However, just because we may be tired of hearing it doesn’t mean it's not true. Donald Trump has made it clear he will try to be even more of a dictator if he wins a second term. Some people always talk about how they want a strong Republican Party, but for me, I want a sane Republican Party, like I had when was growing up and was in college. If you look at all the GOP nominees for president in my lifetime before Trump (George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole, George W. Bush, John McCain and Mitt Romney), they were all conservative men but also decent men; Donald Trump doesn’t have a decent bone in his body. When I was in college, and President Bush won a 2nd term, I was disappointed, but didn’t fear the end of democracy.
For me, President Biden not being Trump is enough; however, he has brought so much more to the table, becoming the most successful president in my lifetime – from the Inflation Reduction Act, American Rescue Plan and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to putting Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson on the Supreme Court. He has done a lot, and I am proud to vote for him again.
Remember, we can vote for an 80-year-old and then, in 2028, get someone more progressive and younger. Or we can vote for the 77-year-old or abstain from voting altogether, and face the real possibility of not having another election at all.
I am confident the American people will make the right choice.
