On Sunday night, our hearts were broken once again by a senseless act of violence in Las Vegas. Let us all remember the victims and their families in our thoughts and prayers.

I am told that there is an immediate need for blood for the injured victims. If you can donate blood, please contact Bonfills Blood Center at www.bonfils.org.

As we struggle to deal with this tragedy in our own individual way, let us dedicate ourselves to continuing the fight for a safer America, where once and for all we put an end to mass shootings. Such violence can and must be deterred, if not banished altogether. The need for legislation in the areas of mental health and gun safety is as evident now as it was after Columbine and the Aurora Theater shootings.

It is not too soon to move strong, progressive measures to prevent future tragedies.
