Melissa earned her bachelor’s degree in Latin American History from the University of California, Davis. Melissa Johnsen has 25+ years of diverse executive IT and business management experience in a variety of industries. Melissa currently applies this experience providing pro-bono services for non-profits as an independent IT and Business consultant.
Prior to her current focus, Melissa’s 25+ years career with Fortune 500 companies included the roles of chief information officer, chief technology officer, and the vice president of IT operations, among others for companies such as Express Scripts, Starbucks, SBC and Sharebuilder to name a few. Melissa acted as the interim CEO for a state designated public/private nonprofit for healthcare technology (Missouri Health Connection) and has served on several nonprofit boards for social justice and health care in Missouri and Colorado.
Since moving to Colorado in 2013, Melissa was appointed to the boards of NARAL Pro-choice Colorado, c3, Progress NOW Colorado, c4 & c3, Planned Parenthood – Rocky Mountains/c3, c4 and Colorado Non-Profit Development Center (CNDC) and volunteers with the Denver Democratic Party, now as the County Chair. Melissa was also elected to the American Association of University Women (AAUW) National Board, where she is concluding her second term. Melissa established two university endowments that support young women in science, technology, engineering, and math (University of Arizona) and the education of physicians in reproductive health and family planning (University of California at Davis
